George Poteet may be best known as a Bonneville record holder and the pilot of the Speed Demon streamliner, but he’s also a passionate car collector with a preference for hot rods and customs. At last weekend’s Grand National Roadster Show, in Pomona, California, Poteet’s ’36 Ford “Three Penny Roadster,” built by Eric Peratt and team at Pinkee’s Rod Shop in Windsor, Colorado, captured the title of “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster,” a first for both Poteet and Pinkee’s.
The upcoming Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS), taking place from January 25-27, 2019, at the Pomona Fairplex in Pomona, California, marks a milestone anniversary for the event. For 70 years — making it the longest continually running indoor car show in the world — the GNRS has been attracting the best builders, hot rods, customs, motorcycles, and lowriders in the world, with an annual highlight being the selection of “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster” from a pool of 13 finalists.
