1950 Chevrolet 6 Cylinder with Speed Equipment, alternative Hot Rod power?
Saw this engine for sale on Hemming’s and it occurred to me that this would make a really cost effective alternative to either a hopped up four banger or a Flathead V8.
If it’s to go into Model A or B, then any Ford v Chevy sensibilities would need to be put to one side.
Based on the engine number: HAM196465, this appears to be a 1950 216 ci. It has Offenhauser valve cover, Newhouse intake, 2 Rochester carbs with linkage, Fenton exhaust.
This engine was running in a 1954 Chevy when I bought it many years ago. I bought it to go in an early Chevy pickup, but never used it. I have not run it since I bought it. Does not include engine stand. Would be best if you pick up.
26.5 hp, 4 cylinder engine, 3 speed manual transmission. I purchased this from the estate of the second owner. Clean! only 19,000 miles, no rust, paint has some blemishes I can’t say for sure but I have been told it has the orignal paint. Runs good. Chrome is in great condition with optional front bumper guards and chrome wheel trim rings. The convertible top is in good condition along with side zipper-in-place windows and convertible top boot cover. Engine has been fitted with adapter for modern oil filter. Vintage Lincoln/Ford Dealer’s Transmission Workbench/tool storagecabinet. All steel. From Lumpkin Ford dealership,Waynoka, OK. 11’6” long x 5′ tall x 2′ 2” deep. I’ve had it about 38 years. All original. It’s not been cleaned—as I got it. Always stored inside. Looks like a ’50s model to me. Center and left cabinet are lighted by a working switch. Right cabinet has steel shelving. Left cabinet uses pegboard. Missing a simple door knob on the right center door as shown in the last photo. Otherwise complete. Steel is good other than the center doors have been bent in a bit, the left long door has a small dent, and the curved metal on the lower left has a dented section about six inches long. All of this damage is shown in the photos. I have lots of storage so there is no hurry to pick it up. Will store for six months or longer at no charge if needed. There are people that come through the country and pick up vintage items like this and deliver. I can help you find someone.

Wearing a beautiful and correct reproduction body, K 297 has been fully gone through mechanically and successfully participated in the 2018 Lansing to Dearborn run. An older restoration, it shows well and is accompanied by the correct rebuilt Holley magneto.
The Ford Model K is an upscale automobile that was produced by Ford. It was introduced in 1906 and replaced the earlier Model B. It was built at the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant. The model K was aimed at the top end of the market and featured an inline-6 (the only Ford six until 1941) giving 40 hp (30 kW). The wheelbase was 120 in (2896 mm) and could be ordered either as a touring or roadster model.
Contrary to popular folklore, the Model K was a good seller for Ford Motor Company. In 1906, the first year it was offered, the Model K produced over eighty five percent of Ford Motor Company’s new car profit (1906 Ford Motor Company internal audit records).
