Model B Engine Inspection

Advertisements

Took a trip over to strip and inspect the Model B engine, on the whole it was very encouraging. Looking at the stamping on the block it looks as if it’s a 1939 build.

The engine looks in great shape and we think it was overhauled maybe back in the 1950’s and then just stored before changing hands a number of times. The white metal big ends and mains are in reall good shape as are the timing gears. The issue at hand is a number of stuck valves which means we can’t turn the engine fully at this point. So, more soaking in penetrating oil and get back to it in a week or so.

Henry Ford was known as a stubborn man; credit is given to his son, Edsel, for getting Henry to recognize the need to upgrade the product, and the Model A was born.

Tom Cotter meets Randy Carlson and a Really Interesting Hot Rod on the Barn Find Hunter

Episode 41 of Tom Cotter’s excellent YouTube series Barn Find Hunter finds Tom visiting Randy Carlson and his eclectic car collection. The car that interested me the most was the Model A Hot Rod at 16:20 of the video. This car has a great history that Randy has researched with the owners family.

Randy’s 1932 Packard that he raced at The Race of Gentlemen is also featured in the video

Randy also has another Packard which he bought as yard art along with a couple of really nice Model Ts that he has saved and are in remarkable condition. You can see the yard art Packard here

Took the A along to the inaugural Wellington Country Park Farm Shop Car Rally.

For a new show the turn out was excellent, good American car turn out.

A number of A’s were present including one I hadn’t seen before and is amazingly local!

John Cochran’s truck was also present, after he and Meg had taken a long trip to the Goodwood Revival (110 miles :))
